In Welser on the new state bridge two men Charles Walton and Clyde Baptiste fell into the Snake River while hanging ropes. Baptiste drowned as Walton swam to shore and disappeared after a cramp. Survived by a wife aged 83, three sons George Chas Marsh and L E Penland, and two daughters Emma Downing and others. Clark came from California in 1871 and lived in Linn county since.

Fourteen miners are dead in the Courbonade mines near Morrie my in Fernie British Columbia after a gas explosion yesterday afternoon. The bodies have been recovered and were not burned. Investigators say the cause remains uncertain as there were no survivors of the accident.
