Engineers Review Changes In Irrigation Laws
Salem May 24 Some important changes were found by the state legislature in the water law and irrigation and drainage districts. The superintendent of water districts is reduced to two members the State Engineer and the State Water Superintendent. The State Engineer directs the distribution of water the adjudication of water rights and the administration of the water districts while the Superintendent of Water Districts handles the bonds and reclamation. The act allows irrigation districts to tax portions of land to secure reclamation bonds and streamlines cooperation with the Federal Government. Included are provisions for urban lands within municipal boundaries to join irrigation districts and for reclamation of lands in irrigation districts including drought prone areas.
