Enthusiastic miners flooded the dry Snake River bed after Twin Falls Irrigation cut water on March 1 to fill the giant reservoir. For 12 hours the river paused, drawing diggers from Welser and nearby to pan gold in the shifting sands, with the Gelden Giant dredger operating nearby and promising ground where gold might lie.
Augusta March 14 Nearly every important city between Washington and New Orleans is represented among the Southern Ice Exchange members at its annual meeting in Augusta. The aim is to discuss prices labor and improved machinery for mutual benefit of the refiners. W H Howe of Nashville called the meeting to order at the Albion hotel.
