Stanley W. Houghton, son of a former Congressman, is jailed after killing Hi ronymous Hartman, a local terror figure in the Mojave river district. Hartman, arrested earlier for assault on a 16 year old girl, had been released on bail and resumed terrorizing residents before a confrontation led to his death.
The Pendleton Modelists Association adopted a resolution to support a local Young Men’s Christian Association branch, a free reading room and rest room with facilities for farmers and visitors, plus backing for a district fair and an eastern Oregon rose fair in Pendleton. Rev W L Van Nuys led a Hermeneutics discussion after the session.
The Pendleton city council let W A Finnell two contracts for the cemetery water system total 1887.50 dollars. A 100000 gallon concrete reservoir will be built on high ground south of the cemetery with pipe lines to all grounds and completion by September 15 1908. Finnell donated 62.50 reducing the reservoir price to 1200 dollars.
In Cleveland on June 15 Jos. Paroiulski after a dance quarrel with his wife pursued the family home with four children. He attacked the wife and then decapitated himself with a razor as police arrived his head hanging from his shoulders. Authorities note the tragedy followed a heated domestic scene.
Wenaha Springs formally opened for the summer season with J A Borte as new proprietor setting June 15 as opening day. Pendleton residents signed the new register as grounds and buildings were overhauled. Improvements include a renovated road from Hingham Springs station, a rebuilt dance hall and swimming pool platform, and upgraded meals and rooms. The aim is to attract guests from eastern Oregon and Portland to enjoy fishing, a fine swimming pool, and an upscale summer outing.
