Suit Accuses Baddeleys of Land Fraud and Support Strain
The plaintiff, aided by attorney HL Watts, claims J C Baddeley and wife of Walla Walla cheated him by inducing Wing to deed a northwest quarter of section 32 two to the defendants with a promise to deed it back. He values the land at 500 and crops at 1000, alleges a $1500 mortgage and a $100 loan to his wife. He also alleges his daughter tried to commit him to an asylum and caused ongoing unpaid bills, asking for an order to reclaim the land. Meanwhile Pendleton mourns Aura M. Raley, the “Mother of Pendleton,” who died Monday night. Her funeral at the Episcopal church drew a large crowd, Rev. Charles Quinney giving the sermon, with interment at Olney cemetery.
