Murder and suicide follow Echo tragedy this morning
A jealous lover, B B Stoffel, killed Hildie Kenison in Echo at 9:30 AM with a 38 caliber pistol then fled. He shot himself in a barn but died by hanging, as a large posse and pursuing bloodhounds hunted the hills and the sheriff moved to the scene. The victim, 18, was well regarded and the incident unsettled the town.

Young Man Killed Under Load of Logs Near Dixie
In Walla Walla on July 23 Walter Ayde an 18 year old son of farmer Patrick Ayde near Blacksnake Hill seven miles southeast of Dixie was crushed to death when a wagon load of logs rolled forward after the brake gave way. He was returning from the mountains and near his father's barn when the accident occurred at about 630 pm. The body will be brought to the city for Catholic funeral services.

In early hours three city homes were robbed A J McAllister and Nate Raines were ransacked and an attempt on the Stock Exchange building in the tenderloin occurred Two men were captured at the Stock Exchange but the McAllister and Raines burglaries yielded more items including a 40 pound ornamental clock a handbag and valuables The clock valued at 40 or 50 dollars proved hard to move and a small bank with several dollars was later found at a gravel bank downriver The Stock Exchange burglars were arrested but deny the crime and say they were rewiring the building and were briefly held by night officers
