Reports say younger Manchu princes expect Japan to intervene if violence erupts.
London dispatches report Premier Yuan has reached a deal with President Sun to recognize the provisional republic in exchange for large pecuniary considerations. Beijing notes indicate Yuan denies the charge, while Sun may push for formal recognition.

Moses Taylor a prominent Athena farmer was bound over to the grand jury on an assault with intent to kill charge after a preliminary hearing. George Sheard testified that Taylor fired three shots from a gun at him as he approached the Taylor place to retrieve a hayfork, with witnesses noting the gun pointed near Sheard. Justice of the Peace Joe H. Parkes set the bond at $700 amid strong public interest and defense by A. Newberry and Will M. Peterson.

Sigmund Hanson of Fergus Falls Minnesota broke the hill ski record at the Stoughton tournament with a 141 foot jump surpassing the old mark of 185 feet. The event took place in Stoughton Michigan on January 25.
