Harrisburg Pa Feb 16 The pardon board granted continuances in the Mrs Edwards and Greason cases and later withdrew the Edwards and Greason death warrants. Greason has appeared before the supreme court six times and the pardon board twice. his death warrant has been read forty times. The board delayed action due to dissent among three supreme court justices and Greason’s youth statement about four witches. Mrs Edwards has not petitioned the supreme court, and the board refused to commute her sentence. The opinion expressed here is that neither Mrs Edwards nor Greason will ever hang.
In Chisago on February 16 May wheat opened at 1.17 and closed 1.18 while July stayed at 1.02. Cash wheat in San Francisco was 1.55 with Portland values listed for Walla Walla to valley regions. Roosevelt returned to Washington after a New York reception, staying at the White House for several days as Mrs. Douglas Robinson joined the party. Congress moved to investigate Standard Oil, with the commerce and labor secretary directed to probe anti trust concerns.
Portland February 15 Judge Tanner informed Senator Mitchell of a continuing push for investigations. T. B. Newhauseen was appointed to lead local government secret service efforts, with orders to extend inquiries into timber frauds.
