Chicago reports May wheat near 1.20, closing 1.19 and July at 1.03. Barley price shown around 1.46. San Francisco cash wheat at 1.55, Liverpool May wheat listed at 11d. Market notes indicate a steadier basis after initial weakness, with global grain prices cited.
Chicago February 16 wheat prices opened higher on bets John W. Gates would lift the market with heavy buying but he instead dumped holdings, cutting exposure to 10,000,000 bushels. Heavy selling pressured May options to around 1.9% and the market hovered near a potential crash as traders awaited further action.
New York Feb 16 The Equitable Life Insurance board adjourned for a report on settling management differences. The Hyde faction is favored to depose President Alexander and push a plan to give policy holders a voice. The board indicated old directors would be re-elected and a modified mutualization plan will proceed.

Madrid Feb 16 Spain moves to expand navy with eight ironclads ten battle cruisers and sixty six camelier vessels at half a billion cost.

Irving Curti n nephew of OG and agent J Curting of Umatilla was struck by passenger train No 3 at 4 PM yesterday in Umatilla. He was unconscious with head and arm injuries but not expected to be fatal, brought to St Anthony's Hospital under care of relatives and a physician. Curtion, 19, lived in Umatilla and worked as a bellboy.
