Floating hotels for poor workers in New York City
A plan by John Arbuckle opens two to three floating hotels on large vessels moored near Thirty-Fourth Street and the North River to house poor working women at 40 cents a day or 2.50 a week. The ships will dock by July 1, then sail at night to sea to avoid city conditions. No alcohol allowed aboard, and rowdy behavior barred. Multiple ships expected to serve as budget lodgings, expanding if demand stays high.

100th anniversary of Sacajawea birth at Fort Mandan
February 12 marks the 100th birthday of Sacajawea, tied to Lewis and Clark’s expedition at Fort Mandan. Other events include a Milton Sunday School convention in late February, the Lewie and Clark exposition in June, and national suffrage and medical meetings in Portland later in summer. The note notes public notices and upcoming bids for district No. 14 Pendleton plumbing work with bid security. It cites ads for Electric Bitter and a horse training service.
