Irrigation Plans for Umatilla County Highlighted by Dr Cole
Dr W G Cole of Pendleton comments on J Furnish irrigation efforts in northern Umatilla county, digging a 20 mile canal east of Echo to flood 5000 to 10000 acres with Umatilla river waters. He notes winter spring flood waters could boost alfalfa crops and sustain local stock. Cole predicts irrigation will spur a new town on the Columbia and Pendleton as regional capital and financial center.
