Will Not Pick Their Hops in Yakima Valley
Hopgrowers in the Yakima valley plan not to pick their crop due to market collapse and prices under 10 cents. A bumper crop plus rumors from hopbuyers reduced prices, prompting many farmers to abandon vines or switch to other crops. Hopraising has long been a leading industry in the Yakima valley, with growers like George L. Rowe noting false reports spurred excessive planting and price declines.
