A catastrophic blaze in New York caused deaths and extensive property damage. Fire crews battled the flames as residents evacuated, with authorities investigating the cause amid ongoing emergency responses.
Six people died in a fire that destroyed a ramshackle tenement at 36 Essex Street New York on August 19. Firemen subdued the blaze after a search of the building from cellar to roof uncovered the six bodies including Annie Botochin a stunned woman and Jules Liebwitz Louis Liebwitz and Morris Liepwitz.
Helen Wagner died in July in this city. An appeal in her case pending in the U S court of appeals at San Francisco has found her innocent of grand larceny. A Nome jury convicted her four days after indictment. prosecutor Manthell was accused of perjury. The petition for her pardon is on its way to President Roosevelt. Evidence says two Nome blers Evans and Kidwell plotted revenge on an unnamed Annie and hired Manthell to perjure to prison.
York Aug 19 Duchess Marleborough Consuelo Vander is visiting New York for the first time in seven years. She is accused by her mother and Mr. and W K Vanderbilt Jr the latter sister of the late Charles Fair of his death and caused intense sorrow among the party.
London reports a Constantino dispatch stating official relations between the Porte and the American legation are strained after the Porte failed to fulfill undertakings regarding claims. Further delay may lead to serious action by the United States.

Pittsburg Aug 19 Schwab's private car left for Loretta this morning to take him to New York. It is understood he will sail for Europe tomorrow. His representatives say the trip is only his usual summer vacation. James Gayley, second vice president of the steel corporation, is slated for president if Schwab retires. Gayley is a scientific metallurgist and an efficient manager aged 46.
The body of R. R. Remington was found dead by his own hand in a Newport undertaker’s shop. A single bouquet of carnations from a boarding house lady was the only visible reminder of friends here. His brother, invited to attend major social functions, is expected to arrive this afternoon.
George M. Hopkins aged 60 of New York City died in Cheshire Massachusetts from uremic poisoning. Hopkins was on the staff of the Belentific American and a noted writer on sphinxlike objects.

Salt Lake August 19. The hermit prospector of Park City Peter Anderson was discovered dead in his isolated cabin near the Amber mill in the Park City mining district. He apparently starved to death after living weeks without aid. Cash totaling 1700 was found hidden in the cabin and authorities believe he had about 10000 more in banks or credits.
