Open River Motor Trucks Backed By Portland Speaker

Waterway delegates honor late Dr Blalock at memorial

Delegates at the Columbia and Snake River Waterways convention held a memorial service for Dr. G Blalock. Prof Lyman of Walla Walla presided as tributes from Dr Morris of Lewiston Captain Gray of Paseo and others recalled Blalock’s work for Inland Empire waterways. The service ended with the Doxology.

H N Dryer of Umatilla spoke at the Morning addresses emphasizing river decks and terminal rates. He described city efforts to secure beach lands, lower freight costs, and expand docks and warehousing to boost inland navigation on the Columbia and Snake rivers toward Idaho and British Columbia.

R. R. Officials to Answer Charge at Weoitport Wreck

In Connecticut a ruling names Charming Wier and an unnamed partner charged with manslaughter and negligence in the wreck on the line near Weoitport. President Charles Mellen and Vice President S H. McHenrs of the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad appeared. Both were released on $5,000 bail.

Wife kills husband after attack on friend during ride

In New Orleans on April 15 Mrs. Stroud shot and killed her husband Jesse Stroud after he attacked Edward Heeler during a horseback encounter with the couple. Stroud was beaten and shot in the side, then the wife fatally shot her husband in the head. She waited with a pistol after the act and told officers she would marry Heeler once acquitted.

Delegates Attend Reception at Commercial Association

Delegates at the waterways association meeting were hosted at the Commercial Club rooms with a smoker and social session lasting until 11. Judge S A Lowell opened the program for the next day while Mayor Matlock's welcome was delivered by R R Johnson. W L Thompson and J M Strable spoke for the club and committee respectively, with performances by a male quartet and boxing and gymnastic displays concluding the evening.

Assistant Superintendent of P P and L Co Electrocuted

Pendleton suffered a power outage after two accidents. Norman McCracken, assistant superintendent, died from electrocution at the Milton plant area near Wild Horse Cut. The damag e involved an incinerated stator. the line was restored briefly after coroner procedures.
