Birthday celebration for Home for the Aged members
Seven Home for the Aged residents marked October birthdays with an Auxiliary party on October 18. Guests included Mrs. Gertrude Visser Steve Grandin Gradus Veldhwizen Peter Lubberden Mrs. Martin Klein Mrs. Gertrude De Vries and Mrs. Grace Roards. Ice cream was donated by Peter Lubberden. entertainment and cake accompanied the singing of the birthday song.

A list shows several local residents in and out of care facilities this week. Mrs Yella Menninga of Reasner was admitted on Monday October 22 along with Alex Hart of Hapney. Mrs Elizabeth Gaass of Pella moved to a nursing home on the same day. Walter Brummel and Miss Julie Kruseman of Pella were admitted on October 23. Christy Frederick of Pella was dismissed October 23 followed by Mrs Gerrit Van Heukelem on the same day.

Spencer Superintendent Elected to High School Board of Control
Doyle Carpenter, Spencer superintendent of schools, was elected to the State Board of Control, succeeding Herb Graeder of Beaman-Conrad whose term expired. Other board members include Boyd Shannon, William West, R. R. Watson, and Ames Principal Herb Adams. The council also recommended four additional days of football conditioning before the fall games, with 8 mornings and 8 evenings of pads and heavy gear. Some suggested combining spring and summer baseball tournaments. smaller schools may adopt a unified plan in the future.
