Cotton Grown On Iowa Farm Near Delta
Delta Press reports Jim Abrams is growing cotton on his farm four miles southwest of Delta. He brought two stalks to the Press office, noting a few bolls opened last Thursday, with sun warming the window. He says 1500 pounds of cotton yield a 500 pound bale or 100 pounds when seed.

Milton Herald reports on a rare June 23, 1897 booster issue of the Milton Herald Volume d Number 6. J. W. Burchett owns the copy, valued as a souvenir, in excellent condition with book paper and numerous cuts of prominent citizens, places, and homes edited by NE Guernsey before the Spanish-American War.

Destructive Fire Destroys Batavia Hardware Store and Cafe
A major fire in Batavia destroyed two buildings, the S. C. Gorman hardware store and the Ben Duncan cafe, threatening the business district. Damage is estimated at 35,000 dollars. Fire departments from Fairfield and Ottumwa responded, extinguishing the blaze after initial attempts failed.

Injuries Fatal For North English Man After Auto Crash
Mike Deimerly of Keokuk County died at his home one mile south of North English after injuries from a Sunday night crash when a wagon was struck by a car driven by Joe Lindsay of North English. Deimerly suffered a crushed lung with hemorrhage, a fractured left arm and a dislocated breastbone. his death followed the crash a few days earlier. His son Ervin survived with only shock.

Sigourney Resident Sigourney Resident Is Past 90 Years
Sam Brunt of Keokuk County celebrated his ninety first birthday at his niece’s home with sixty two relatives present. A Civil War veteran and early Keokuk County settler, he helped organize the Keokuk County State Bank and worked as a surveyor, farmer, and banker before residing in Sigourney with his son Arthur. Friends and relatives traveled from Grand Island Nebraska Blakesburg Ottumwa and Yuma Arizona to attend.

Uncle Benny Brewer marked his 96th birthday last week with a dinner at his daughter Et ta Baker's home. Born near Salem Indiana on September 30, 1885, he moved to Iowa in 1865 and later returned to Indiana before resuming life in Marion County.

Delta Farmer Reaps 2500 Bushels From 387 Apple Trees
Sigourney reviewer Art Millikin visits Sigourney area near Delta to report on Sigourney farmer Sigourney Millikin or Millikin orchard southwest of Delta. The 387 trees yield about 2500 bushels of apples this year mainly Grimes Golden Jonathan and Roman stems. The farmer sold most apples to wholesalers in past years but plans more direct sales to consumers this season. A window display showcases some fine apples and seven orchard sprayings were conducted this year along with new tree planting.
