Early Pella Hotel Built by Schubring Founder at Main and Liberty
This piece recounts C C Buck Buerkens’ story and details of the Schubring Hotel once at Main and Liberty in Pella. Built by E H Schubring in 1877, it stood on the corner later replaced by the White Way garage. Schubring, a Prussian-born blacksmith, immigrated to America in 1854, worked in Michigan and Colorado, settled in Pella in 1861, and operated the hotel with his wife Margaret for about a quarter century, offering rooms at two dollars a day.
