Pella Auxiliary Police Seeks New Members
The Pella Auxiliary police, 15 members strong with up to 20 allowed, assists during Tulip Time and events. Applicants must be 21 and reside in Pella, chosen by the city police chief, Marion County sheriff, and senior state trooper, then voted on by current members. Members ride at least four hours monthly and may patrol solo. uniform and equipment match regular police. Established in 1970, the unit is governed by a six member committee led by Chief Paul Steenhoek, Captain Jim Nelson, and Lieutenant Don Pleima.
