Electric Milk Cooler Cheaper Than Water

Iowa State College extension dairy experts A W Rudnick and Ken McFate report that electric milk coolers cost less to operate than water coolers. Two types exist, one with a side door and another with a top opening, both effective for cooling milk. Determine cooler size by total daily milk production and planned herd size.

Iowa May 1 1952 Crop Report Highlights Wheat And Rye Output

The May 1 1952 report projects Iowa winter wheat at 3 278 000 bushels up 66 percent from 1951 but 16 percent below the 10 year average. Rye is forecast at 185 000 bushels versus 140 000 in 1951 and a 10 year average of 210 000. Overall 1952 winter wheat output would rank behind 1947 and 1948 and exceed 1951 by 53 percent. The report notes April rainfall aided growth but a severe April freeze damaged gin content in the southwest. Acreage harvested and projected yields are analyzed with 19 3 bushels per harvested acre expected, and rye production projected at 17 795 000 bushels, the smallest since 1934, with only 1 381 000 acres planned for harvest.
