Public health guidance urges homeowners to attack fabric and cereal pests now with cleaning, storage, and DDT or chlordane treatments. Harold Gunderson of Town State College extents warns moths, Indian meal moths, and other insects cause extensive damage.
Veterans Administration Hospital Knoxville Iowa announces the softball season opens Friday June 13 1952 with the Veterans All Stars versus Hospital Personnel. New bleachers and lighted scoreboard add to the west side field as about 750 patients attend each game with plans to book teams from across the region for Tuesday and Friday night play not reciprocating home games.
Iowa's April egg output totaled 495 million, up 4 percent from April 1951 and near the ten year average. The monthly production is the highest since 1946 and fifth highest in 28 years, with the January to April period at a record 1,982 million eggs. Farm flocks reached 26,637,000 layers, up 8 percent from a year earlier, and the rate of lay averaged 1860 eggs per 100 layers, a 2 percent rise and a record for the month.
The Town Employment Security Commission reports April saw declines in unemployment benefits vs March, despite higher spring activity. Benefits paid totaled $497,187 for 8,082 recipients, with manufacturing weeks and checks totaling $197,439 for 10,170 weeks, and service averaging the smallest check at $17.28.

He took a leave February 14 and did not return while warrants cashed at Bussey area businesses tied the defalcation to the Soldiers Relief office.

The sixth annual Junior Quality Lamb Show will be held in Ottumwa June 17 according to show manager John H Dohagne. The event promotes spring lamb production for early markets with market grades Prime Choice Good Utility determining premiums and selling prices. There is no limit to entries per exhibitor and blanks are available from local extension or agriculture instructors. An judged class will let exhibitors select lambs for championship honors.
Top ten lambs will be arranged with the first place named Champion Market Lamb of the Show. The best pent to be selected. Exhibitors must have three or more lambs to qualify for this class. All lambs in the pen are considered. Judging focuses on grade quality and uniformity. Eugene Francis of Extension Service Iowa State College will supervise, assisted by a packet buyer and a commercial lamb producer.
The show features several educational segments with the market lamb grading contest leading. Separate contests will be held for Juniors and Seniors, and prizes will be awarded by Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank and the Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce. The event runs at the Stockyards of John Morrell and Co starting at 9:00 am with June sponsors including Iowa State College and related groups.
