Honey Bees Need DDT Protection for Legume Pollinators
R J Walstrom Iowa State College extension entomologist says bees and other pollinators are essential for seed crops of cross pollinated legumes and must be protected. He recommends two DDT applications at 4-6 inches and pre-bloom stages at 1 pound per acre, plus 1 pound toxaphene second application. Bees aid pollination when colonies are spaced 8-10 per acre and distributed in groups to cover the field, ensuring staggered bloom and better seed yield.
