Des Moines reports state board of pharmacy examiners will replace John Heerema, a Pella Democrat, as secretary-treasurer in a year-long term paying 2580 dollars. The July 6 vote favored removal, with Republican W. Tyler of Lenox noted as a vote in support. Heerema’s tenure ends July 81, though official details remain disputed and letters from druggists urged reappointment.

On Monday night, July 10, Wm. S. Van Hemert of Des Moines Sixth District installed the Baldwin Patterson Legion Post officers for 1939 40 at their regular meeting in Des Moines Iowa. Accompanied by Geo. Ries and Oren S. Van Nie waal, the visitors attended the brief talks and token of appreciation was given to the outgoing Commander. The Auxiliary joined the Legion after adjournment for refreshments served by the Legionaires.

A correction states the prior report about the Holland theatre misnamed Charles Anderson. The correct name is Joe Anderson. The note also confirms New York City operates 609 elementary and 76 junior high schools.
Orange City council on Monday night approved purchasing 2000 additional tulip bulbs supervised by park commissioner Ed Bolloyt. The park board ordered 1000 bulbs for city park beds, boosting downtown floral displays. The bulb order will ship to Holland soon. citizens may contact Mr. Bolloyt to buy bulbs.
A historical account recalls a rough road hauling cart drawn by a horse serving as a carrier. The creaking, swaying vehicle lulled riders, jolting over curbs and frozen ruts. One morning the cart nearly crashed into the post office, while a wheel lift could tip it, forcing the carrier to ride a shoulder until the horse halted the rough ride.
Mrs. Owen Houser wrote to Congressman Dowell about S. 281, an annuity bill to aid widows of retired carriers. Dowell replied that the bill passed the House yesterday, aiming to rectify an injustice where a carrier’s retirement pay ends at death leaving the widow without care.

Funeral claims cost 21787.40 dollars. Marion county 805 received 15816 dollars total averaging 19.65 per person. Mahaska county 824 received 20.32. Jasper county 684 received 20.34.
Iowa 4 H boys and girls will receive three educational trips to the National 4 H Club Congress in Chicago December 1 9 for outstanding livestock project work and general club activities. Trips awarded by the Cudahy Packing Company of Chicago and selections will be made by the State club leader s office.
