FSA to Offer Long Term Loans for Farm Tenants in Marion County

Park Hammer, FSA supervisor of Marion County, announced that Marion County has been designated to participate in the tenant base program. The plan provides 40 year loans at 3 percent for selected farm tenants to purchase farms. A limited number of loans will be issued this year with applications due by August 31, judged on character, farming ability and experience. The exact funds for the county are not yet determined.

A Tenant Purchase Advisory Committee of farmers will assist Park Hammer in Iowa's Tenant Purchase Program. Loans run up to 40 years at 3 percent interest with flexible repayment via annual net income, inspected farms, and support plans. Applicants judged by experience, ability, and character. deadline August 31, 1939.

Man Finds Bull Snake in Oats Field Near Boot Farm

Frank Boot hurried from the oats field carrying a large bull-snake. He placed it into a well-filled corn crib where the reptile entered the corn through an opening as if guided. Boot notes the snake will stay in the crib briefly and implies it will help him secure the rate.

Threshing Time Returns To Bethel Area Harvest

Farm locals report threshing underway near Bethel and Pella with the H G Bensink and Frank Boot farms active. Yielding about 30 to 40 bushels per acre on Frank Boot land, grain quality good, clover stands fair, and neighbors lending help during the week. Connie De Goey photographed oats in the issue.

Good Quality Oats at Boot Farm Report

Orville Bensink and Virgil Boot stored oats at the Frank Boot farm on July 22. The grain quality was good with long straw and an estimated yield around thirty bushels per acre. Nearby east of the city a field yielded 50 bushels per acre, the highest reported.

Farming Pair Harvests Thirty Bushels Per Acre In Bethel

William Bogaards and Connie De Gosy worked for Henry G. Bensink in Bethel Saturday morning July 22. They combined oats, the machine recovered the crop quickly and cleanly. The yield reached about thirty bushels per acre with good quality and minimal straw left.

Aviation tips clash with crash near Iowa Minnesota line

Aviation experts advise beginners to fly high and fast while keeping a nose down on turns as Amateur Pilot Irving Engen and two passengers fell out of a turn at about 200 feet just north of the Iowa Minnesota line. The plane spun after the loss of control, with the fate of the occupants not disclosed in the fragment.
