Bedding with whole corncobs and oil sprinkling in shady spots are recommended, with cobs viewed as the better remedy. Soil fertility losses are estimated at two billion dollars annually.

Spring Pig Crop Up Five Per Cent From 1949 Total
The spring pig crop is estimated at 11,046,000 head, five percent above 1949, making it the second largest spring crop on record behind the 1940 wartime peak. Sows farrowing total about 2,171,000 head, with higher death losses due to late spring weather. If fall litter intentions hold, the state could reach around 967,000 sows to farrow, pushing total pigs toward 20.2 million for 1950.
