Aluminum Foil Speeds Cooking Out-of-Doors
A nutritionist from Town State College explains how aluminum foil aids outdoor cooking. Meals like hamburgers potatoes sweet corn and baked apples can be ready in about 15 minutes with foil wrapped and placed in coals. Potatoes finish in 15 minutes vegetables in 10 to 20 minutes and corn after husks are removed and wrapped.

Eighteen and One-Half Million Ducks Killed in 1949
The U S Fish and Wildlife Service reports 18.5 million wild ducks killed in the 1949-50 season, up from 17 million the previous year. Despite a 10% drop in hunters to about 1.68 million, longer seasons and wider opportunity boosted the kill, with the Mississippi flyway states and a mild fall aiding migratory waterfowl retention and harvest.

Tragedy Follows Night of Drinking and Breakup
A man recalls Carl lingering outside a house and drinking with friends before confronting his girlfriend after she arrived with another man. After an escalating quarrel, Carl drove away, lost control on a curve, and died when the steering column struck his chest. Four friends were injured as the night spiraled from jealousy to violence.

Farm Pond a Good Way to Boost Iowa Water Supply
Iowa stockmen fear short water supplies next year and should plan now to enlarge livestock drinking water by building farm ponds. Asbestos cement shingles offer durability and fire resistance and come in varied colors and textures. Asphalt or composition shingles provide moderate cost, light weight, and durability in many shapes. Warns against lightweight or overly exposed shingles that curl after weathering. Metals are light and suitable for roofs.

Van Vinck notes flat slope roofs leak little but offer limited heat or cold protection. Fire resistant but needs tight sheathing or insulation.
