Suggestions for Safe Summer Swimming
Health officials warn that June to August are peak drowning months. The 1956 counts show 18 deaths in June and 10 in July and August. They urge never swim alone, avoid vigorous meals, stay near shore, and watch children while in water. Night bathing is risky, cramps signal retreat, and only experts should swim in deep, moving water.
