Messiah Proves Ably Presented by Central College Choir
The Central College Oratorio Society led by Anthony Kooiker delivered the best Messiah yet heard in Pella. Soloists Edith LeCocq and Harold Reeves sang well despite colds, with new vocalists Della Beth Thomson and Ralph Appleman pleasing greatly. The chorus showed steadier, solid singing and the superb orchestra balanced with emotional depth. Koeiker earned praise for guiding seven weeks of rehearsals into a cohesive interpretation.

Farmers Study Corn Borer Threat and Bond Shortfalls
The Pella Otley district nears its E Bond quota with only one week left as of December 18, total sales $188,475 or 96.15 percent of $196,000. Countywide progress lags, Marion and Jasper, Mahaska, and Sioux counties ranked below target, while farmers hear Harold Gunderson explain control methods including silage, deep plowing, and early-year attack before May 15. The story notes rising losses, past outbreaks, and the push to oversubscribe E and BE bonds as Christmas gifts and investment.
