Seaman Robert Budding Welcomed in Kiirun China Dock
Seaman first class Robert Budding of Pella Iowa, serving on the USS St Louis, arrived at Kiirun harbor October 17 after navigating mine strewn Formosan waters. The ship, part of the Magic Carpet fleet, patrolled the Yangtze and East China Sea, aiding minesweepers and anti shipping patrols. Budding helped cover landings by the Chinese 70th Army and was greeted by Chinese civilians with firecrackers.
