Wilbur Van Ee Builds Two Ponds Near Pella

Wilbur Van Ee on his farm four miles northeast of Pella is constructing two ponds with a combined surface area of seven acres. The smaller pond of two acres sits above a larger five acre pond, both fed by a main creek. Watersheds cover 236 acres, with depths up to 22 feet in the larger pond and 20 feet in the smaller. The big dam will require 14 000 cubic yards of earth and rise about 30 feet, with a 24 inch overflow pipe 100 feet long. The project aims to slow erosion and hold 38 acre feet of water. Technical aid from three Soil Conservation Service men assisted in planning and construction.
