First Reformed Church to Install New Pastor Sept. 7
The Reverend Herman J. Ridder, graduate of Western Theological Seminary, will be installed as minister of First Reformed Church on Friday September 7. Ridder organized Homewood Reformed Church in Illinois after 1962 and has served as its pastor for over four years. He is current announcer for Temple Time radio and writes weekly Sunday School lessons for the Church Herald.

Tornado Struck Near New Sharon Sunday Afternoon
A tornado three miles north of New Sharon Sunday afternoon tore a four mile wide path northeast of Barnes City to Deep River. It damaged farms and homes from New Sharon to Montezuma, with one casualty from flying glass. Sheriff and highway patrol directed traffic as funnel was sighted along the path.

Water Show at Municipal Pool Highlights Closing

The Chronicle received a Certificate of Commendation for the July 26 1966 article Deaths Injuries Prove Farming is One of Most Dangerous Occupations. The award was signed by Cliff Gerstenberger, Iowa Safety Council chairman, with the council collaborating with the National Farm Safety Council. Farm Safety Week ran that week.

The Pella Independent School District formally approved an 8 mill reduction in the tax levy and set taxes at 128326 for all purposes next year. The Telephone Co reports growing use of dial phones in Pella after ten days of operation. Manager H J Hopkins notes common errors like dialing O instead of 0 and omitting letters MA before numbers. Farmers Dinner Hosts Pairings and Softball Victory
About 250 men from the Chamber of Commerce and the Adult Night School attended a farmers courtesy dinner at Pool Park on Thursday evening Aug 9.
