Give Pasture a Chance Dont Graze Too Early

Do not rush cattle to pasture. wait for a 4 to 6 inch stand and firm ground. Begin with short grazing and extend over 4 to 7 days to reach full pasture feeding. Apply 30 to 60 lbs actual nitrogen per acre to grasses or 40 to 60 lbs phosphate per acre to legumes, focusing on the best stand areas. Use temporary fencing to separate strong and poor areas.

He notes more cows in slaughter, fewer prime steers, and a larger supply of fed cattle expected as the year progresses, with factors like moisture conditions in grazing areas affecting outcomes.
