About 150 parents pulled white students from Hood Junior High School in Dallas east side after rumors of impending violence and desegregation tensions. The move followed fears of safety and school integration.
William Kaddatz a Pecos High School graduate and 1971 FTA member was chosen one of six winners from about 600 entries nationwide receiving congratulations and a $25 prize. He attended the state meet last year as Mr. FTA.

The Texas Supreme Court ruled the 1971 House redistricting plan unconstitutional and issued four guidelines for future reapportionment. It upheld keeping counties intact when possible, allowed limited county splits to meet equal population, and warned against altering constitutional provisions for convenience. The decision also noted ongoing questions on who must draft a new plan.
U S District Judge Leon Brewster will hear next week a motion for preliminary injunction involving Southeastern Productions Inc and the City of Fort Worth over the musical Hair The judge urged settlement and gave parties a week to resolve terms Southeastern seeks to rent Will Rogers auditorium from December 16 to January 15 while a suit challenges a ruling banning Hair The case centers on nude scene concerns and conformity to city ordinances in contract terms Also in Washington the Senate defeated a move to reject a compromise extension and military pay raise bill by a 47 to 36 vote.
A National Advisory Committee on Weight Feed Grain and Soybeans pressed the Nixon administration to trim 1972 grain output without full backing for old controls. The panel favored the 1970 set aside approach and urged production to meet only livestock feeder and export needs, while cotton advisers discussed boosting domestic paid base acres and price supports.
Jim Jennings district scout executive for the Big Bend-Sandhills District says Pecos Cub scouting will be revamped and seeks volunteers sponsors from clubs schools businesses and churches to support reorganization. A Sept 16 school night event was postponed.
