Rescue work honors Airman Hugh W. Keel and unit
Airman First Class Hugh W. Keel of Seagraves Texas and his unit at Ellsworth AFB earned the U S Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for rescue and recovery work during and after Rapid City flood events June 9 to July 10. Keel, a fuels specialist with the 44th Strategic Missile Wing, will wear a distinctive service ribbon. He is a 1971 Seagraves High School graduate. The rapid city flood killed at least 216 people and caused over 160 million dollars in damages, with Ellsworth personnel aiding in relief efforts and city cleanup in the subsequent month.
