Boggs search area expanded in Alaska flight missing
ANCHORAGE AP Three military planes combed a widened search zone through the early hours for a missing light plane carrying House Democratic Leader Hale Boggs and three others. The crew included Rep. Nick Begich of Alaska, 40, Russell L. Brown, 37, a Betich aide, and Don E. Jonz, the pilot. Rescue crews from Elmen dor Air Force Base used jet reconnaissance planes, air cushions, and Coast Guard cutters, though clouds rain and fog hampered efforts. The search spanned a 100 mile wide band about 560 miles from Anchorage to Juneau, reaching Sitka 90 miles south of Juneau. Maj. Henry Stocker noted Jonz had checked Sitka weather before takeoff as a potential landing if Juneau remained fogbound. He added Sitka could be the source of radio signals spotted by five California ham operators.

Boys charged in auto theft after stalled car stop
Two juveniles were arrested by city police after their car stalled at Firth and Bois d Arc streets. The driver, age 14 with no license, also had a loaded .22 pistol and a tool kit. The car was stolen from a Tulsa dealer. They were charged with auto theft and carrying a prohibited weapon and turned over to the county juvenile officer.
