Hughes plans sale of Houston tool firm to raise 140 million
SEC filings show Hughes Tool earned 4.2 million in 1971 on 82 million in sales. The oil bit that propelled the fortune led to worldwide use and Hughes kept to renting the bit. Elder Hughes died in 1924 and his 19 year old son took over, buying out relatives. The proposed public offering would place Hughes Tool stock in public hands at an estimated 28 dollars per share.

Injured hiker rescued near Queen's area cliff

Judge J A Drane Enshrined Among Pecos Greats
Judge J A Drane is hailed as a Pecos great and laid to rest in a ceremony marking his long service in Texas law. Born in Mississippi in 1883 he studied public schools and universities before practicing in Alabama then moving to Pecos around 1910. He served Reeves and Loving counties as county attorney and later focused on private practice while mentoring younger lawyers. His career included a 1929 district judgeship in the 109th Judicial District, overseeing courts across Andrews Crane Loving Reeves Ward and Winkler counties through 1942, amid oil field growth and shifting county seats.
