Russian crash history's worst civil air disaster
A Soviet Ilyushin-62 crashed near Sheremetyevo airport as rain and poor visibility hampered landings. 176 people were killed with 38 Chilean tourists, five Algerians, a Frenchman and a Briton among the aboard. The incident follows a previous similar crash and Japan's worst air disaster last year.

Laurence Reeves Hudson 66 of 509 Ross Blvd. died Friday in Reeves County Memorial Hospital after a heart attack. A Pecos High principal 1953–1960 and later South Pecos Elementary principal, he earned a master’s in education from North Texas State College. Services were Sunday at First Baptist Church, with interment in Dido Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Vivian, daughter Martha Ann Mellvain of Carlsbad, NM, brother W. H. Hudson of Amarillo, and three grandchildren.

Pecos River crash kills two and other weekend deaths
The Associated Press reports seven weekend fatalities in Texas violence including a Pecos River plane crash that killed two and a canyon river landing near Amistad Lake. The craft carried three aboard. Floyd Gene Mills and Georgia Chaffer Mills died, John Floyd Mills survived. The AP counted 20 deaths by Sunday, with 11 traffic fatalities and other causes.

Three organizations Pecos United Fund Red Cross Parenthood and Foundation will each receive six percent of this year’s contributions.
