Pecos Fall Fair Opens With Mother Goose Parade
The Pecos Fall Fair and Festival kicked off Thursday with a Mother Goose parade through downtown. Sponsored by Young Homemakers, bands from West Pecos and East Pecos Junior High Schools joined characters from Mother Goose, decorated bikes, and Girl Scouts with the American Flag. Directors expect a strong year with new features. Judging of the art show wrapped Thursday. more judging occurs Saturday as the fair barn closes at noon and the carnival runs through Sunday per Bill Hubbs.

Clear Texas skies and warm weekend forecast
Pecos area had clear skies with a high of 92 and a 63 degree overnight low. A stationary front affected northern Texas while the eastern half remained under high pressure. Showers appeared along the Texas southern tip. fog lingered in East Texas and along the coast before burning off by midmorning. Salvation Army and Girl Scouts each receive 12 percent of Pecos United Fund. Police Chief Gene Martin, local Salvation Army treasurer, distributes about 800 dollars for food clothing gasoline and medical aid for Needy transients and residents. Last year the Army paid cancer patients' hospital expenses and provided medicine and clothing for needy students. The unit keeps one third of allocations and sends two thirds to Dallas for admin and projects. Girl Scouts rely on United Fund to operate locally through the Permian Basin Council with two scout huts on Park Street and two summer camps Mitre Peak and Hat A Ranch. Council supplies training and help, aiming to build better citizens. Pecos has five Brownie, four Junior, one Cadette and one Senior Troop with volunteer leaders. Meetings occur weekly at Scout houses and special projects are planned year round.
