Vans to bring veterans advisors to Pecos in October
Vans carrying veteran services specialists tour Texas under Nixon’s National Assistance for Veterans program. In Pecos the mobile unit will park in the 500 block of Oak Street on Friday October 20 from 1 to 5 PM and Tuesday October 24 from 8 AM to 1 PM. The program unites VA Health Education Welfare HUD OEO and Texas Employment Commission. The Texas vans aim to reach veterans not using benefits and will offer education home loans medical benefits disability pensions employment housing and counseling. A four member VA team plus clerk and TEC rep will travel with the vans and provide telephone counseling for follow up.

Cotton sample receipts rose sharply at the USDA Pecos Classing Office. For the week ending Oct 6, 2838 upland samples were classed, bringing the season total to 3387. Strict Low Middling dominated, accounting for about one third of the classing, with Middling and Middling Light Spotted at 24 percent each. Staple 34 and 35 lengths formed most samples, while 84 percent fell in the 3.5 to 4.9 premium range and 16 percent in 5.0 to 5.2. Average breaking strength on the Pressley zero gage was 78 000 psi.
