Miss Leslie McNeil of Pecos led a field of about 46 horse owners at the Pecos Fall Fair horse show. Five teens found after night in forest near Laneville

Crane taps Pecos officer Lee as new city police chief
Pecos patrolman William Lee, 45, is chosen as Crane Texas police chief and will start Friday. He was among four finalists from 12 applicants. Other finalists were acting Chief Jerry Williams James Noland of Big Lake and Bryan Wasson of Midland. Lee brings many years of experience and extensive police training. He has served in Pecos Big Spring and Fort Stockton.

558 Texans Face Induction in Late 1971 Draft Call
A Texas draft call of 588 men for the remainder of 1971 was announced by State Director Colonel Melvin N. Glantz. Inductions will not occur in October, with 363 in November and 195 in December from extended or first priority groups. RSN cutoffs were set at 125 for first priority, and those with RSN 125 or below may receive induction orders, otherwise moved to 1972. About 6,400 men will undergo pre induction exams in October and November.
