Combination licenses gain tentative Texas approval

A Texas Senate committee backed a proposal for an eight dollar seventy five cent combination hunting and fishing license while rejecting a cane pole license and delaying final votes on higher license fees. The plan would raise fishing licenses from two fifteen to five twenty five and hunting from three twenty five to five twenty five, with the combination license offering a saving. Members pressed the cost of stocking private lakes, the need to fund biologists and hatcheries, and potential new charges for cane pole and trotline fishermen. A related measure would increase out of state hunting fees and remove exemptions for under eighteen.
