A Pecos Enterprise letter urges families to prevent fires through simple home safety rules. It cites smoking in bed, leaving children alone, and not teaching youngsters about matches and lighters, noting most fires stem from discarded cigarettes and faulty electricals, and calls for home fire drills to protect lives and reduce costs to taxpayers.
Jean Ferguson of Pecos Barstow ISD special education supervisor has received Patent No. 3,668,789 for a teaching machine she developed as a TWU master's research project. The device uses word association cards and rewards for correct answers, with a token system and movement indicators.
United Fund workers led by Mike Starkey aim to raise 25000 in one week. Mike Burkholder handles large gifts while Mike Harrison and J Robert Scott manage other donations. A kickoff breakfast Tuesday launches the drive with 20 to 25 workers visiting businesses and individuals for annual gifts.
Chamber officials plan to meet the All Texas Air Tour as it stops in Pecos at 4 45 p m today for an overnight program at Pecos Valley Country Club. The tour began last Saturday with 55 planes carrying 120 people and will end Saturday in Kerrville. An evening program with dinner and entertainment starts at 6 p m. The group plans to depart Pecos around 9 a m Wednesday.
A collision occurred at 9 35 a m Monday when a pickup owned by A C Pump and Equipment Co traveling north on Eddy Street was struck by Christopher C Blakley 79 of 317 S Cypress St driving east on Washington Street He failed to stop at a stop sign and was cited by Ruben Gonzales investigating officer for failure to yield right of way at a stop sign.
The Pecos Fall Fair and Festival kicks off Thursday afternoon led by Fair Association chairman Bill Hubbs who says the event is the largest ever. Barns open at 10 each morning with all indoor spaces sold, added outside displays, a 30 ft leather goods booth, nightly country music by Jimmy Bryant, and multiple game booths alongside school, hobby, and art displays. Food booths feature Bessie Haynes Elementary and North Pecos Elementary concessions, Lions Club burgers, Young Homemaker pies, and United Pentecostal candy. The fair runs Wednesday night through Sunday night with the Mother Goose Parade at 4:30 Thursday, entry deadlines and exhibit rules, and free admission to the grounds. Exhibits must be supervised and unclaimed items disposed after five days.

It cites a forged Muskie letter by Ken Clawson as evidence and mentions Segretti’s alleged recruitment of GOP operatives.
Parents of Bessie Haynes Elementary students will run a Mexican food booth at the school fair to fund supplies equipment and beautification. The booth opens 5 30 p m Friday and 4 30 p m Saturday with adult plates 1 25 and children 75 cents. Proceeds last year funded grounds beautification and a sound projector and pump motor for the well. Principal Homer Graham urged support.
Jurors summoned to appear in 143rd District Court on Wednesday October 11 are dismissed until further notice per court actions. No new date has been set, and juror service requirements are paused pending further orders from court officials.
