Laird Wilbur Ailes, 26, died Monday after a four day struggle with encephalitis in Pecos. The obituary, written by a friend, notes his role as senior member of the Ailes Motor Company and the community’s loss. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Van Horn home with ministers Gus Ramage and Carlton Wade presiding.
About $10,000 from the United States government has been paid to Reeves county farmers as rentals for land plowed under under the administration cotton acreage reduction program. Checks arrived at Balmorhea last week and Pecos this week, with roughly 60 percent of the total received. The remainder is due in a few days, boosting local business as funds circulate. When about $20,000 due to Ward court farmers arrives, business activity is expected to rise further.
