Pecos residents will pay $1.15 more per month for water starting July and health and sanitation rates rise to $2 monthly. Outside-city customers face higher minS 3,000 gallons at $5 and taps costs rise to cover actual install costs. The council aims to raise about $66,175 annually to reach break-even.
The Pecos Country Music Association hosts its monthly jamboree Saturday night at 7 30 in the cafetorium of South Pecos Elementary School located at 1501 Veterans Blvd. Admission is 50 cents for adults, 25 cents for students 12 to 18, and children under 12 admitted free with adult. Featured local entertainers are set to perform and Curtiss Carlson is saluted in this month’s show.
Henry Mesa 23 of Odessa died Sunday after a long illness. Services were held Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church Odessa directed by Rix Funeral Home. He served in Vietnam with the US Marine Corps contracted malaria and later attended Odessa College. Survivors include his widow Luper formerly of Pecos daughter of Mr and Mrs Mike Lara. He was survived by his parents four brothers and grandparents in Fort Stockton and Altus Air Force Base Okla
President Nixon and Soviet leaders approved the fifth naval accord during the Moscow summit, aimed at preventing incidents between armed forces on the high seas. John Warner and Adm. Sergei Gorshkov signed as Nixon and Soviet chiefs wrapped up talks on arms control and European Asian issues.
A Heidelberg bombing at the U S Army European headquarters killed three Americans and wounded five as West German authorities hunted suspected Baader Meinhof Red Army Faction terrorists. Paris bombings wounded no one but damaged two U S offices as police linked incidents across Europe.
Pecos observes Memorial Day with many offices and businesses closing Monday. All federal and city offices will shut. state offices and most schools stay open except the tax office. Post office dispatches end early at 2 20 pm. Local banks close. Pecos Enterprise offices also shut. Pecos merchants plan a moonlight sale Friday from 7 to 9 p m with low prices and special offers. Shoppers can use the Magic Number on the front page to learn if they qualify for deals at Anthony's Pennys Woolworths and Goodyear, as pages B-1 B-2 and B-3 in the Enterprise advertise the sale merchandise.
Pecos High School hosts an 8 p m baccalaureate in the auditorium with Rev. David Northcutt giving the address and Rev. R M Montgomery offering the invocation. David Stephens conducts the processional and convocation with choir pieces including Onward Christian Soldiers and You’ll Never Walk Alone sung by Arturo Reyes.
Postmaster Paul L. Morrison announced the post office will be closed all day Monday to observe Memorial Day. Mail delivery will be suspended. special delivery service will be provided. Last outgoing dispatch will depart at 2 20 p.m.
A ribbon cutting marks the grand opening of Clay's T.V. and Appliance at 1118 S. Eddy St. The Pecos Chamber of Commerce will host the 11 a.m. Friday ceremony with RCA Whirlpool and chamber officials in attendance. Woody Ivy urges strong turnout to welcome the new firm to Pecos.
The Pecos Blood Bank calls for donors on Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Blood Services of El Paso will collect donations with 18 to 65 year olds eligible. minors need parental permission unless married or in military service.
Funeral services for Charles E Allie 84 of Pecos were held Wednesday at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leslie Smith officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery. A WWI veteran and retired civil service employee, he lived in Pecos 60 years after moving from High Point Georgia. He died May 22 at his home. Survived by one son Charles E Mike Pecos one daughter Banky Stocks Kent Texas one sister Rubye Stewart San Angelo one brother Martin Lampass Texas five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services for John Thomas Hagar 83 retired Pecos gro cer are set for 4 p m at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leslie Smith and Rev. Rube Pattillo officiating. Burial will be Evergreen Cemetery. He died Wednesday at his home 209 S Plum St. Survives include widow Loy two sons Joe and Earl three grandchildren and three great grandchildren three sisters Lizy Myers Mabel Graham and Nora McCasland.
