Negro Captured After His Escape
Eddie Collins a Negro who escaped from Carlsbad New Mexico deputy last week was recaptured after a pursuit that began when he disarmed and injured a night watchman Pat Paterno in the Mexican section. He was spotted near a bus at Pyote and arrested as it reached Monahans by Capt. E M Wells and Deputy Curtis McElroy. He tried to flee again but was returned to Carlsbad by Sheriff Howell Gage.

The PWA bought bonds for the Kermit sewer and water project finalizing funding. City secretary Jack Bills noted in Pecos that the budget dropped from 203000 to 181000 with an 81000 grant 74000 loan and 26000 private bonds. Pecos contractor J L Cunningham handled the work.

Pecos Chapter Formed for Permian Basin Game and Fish
A Pecos mass meeting formed the Pecos chapter of the Permian Basin Game and Fish Protective Association with 25 members. Dr. J. L. Kincannon named temporary chairman and Harrison Beauchamp temporary secretary treasurer. The Pecos Chamber of Commerce endorsed an enlargement program with a $6000 annual budget and a membership drive. Secretary-Manager M L Swinehart urged concrete objectives and predicted rapid fundraising. An air cooler was installed at the chamber building by Joe Lewis at no cost. Dudley Yard presided at the luncheon as Irving Springs park and rodeo motorcades were discussed.

Mrs. B. McCutcheon Dies From Poisoning
Mrs. B. B. McCutcheon, a member of a Davis Mountain ranch family, was found dead on the Fort Davis Valentine highway from carbon monoxide poisoning. Funeral services were held in Fort Davis and burial followed in the Fort Davis cemetery. She is survived by her husband Bennett McCutcheon, a daughter Martha, three sons Bennett Jr, Alfred, and James Ragsdale, and her mother and sister from Fort Davis.

Injunction Hearings Set Over Red Bluff Recreation Fee
Two injunction suits over Red Bluff's $1 daily recreational fee are set for hearing before District Judge J A Crane. Second day departs 7 30 a m returns 3 30 p m with Balmorhea stop visiting Royalty Grand Falls Fort Stockton Balmorhea Fort Davis Marfa Alpine. Pecos High School Band will accompany with short concerts at each town and State Highway Patrol will escort both days. Participants wear western regalia.

The Far West Reeves county test formerly known as the H F Anthony No 1 Richard Shaw is being deepened this week in search of new pay. Anthony said it was logging high and looked favorable. Drilling had passed 1800 feet with first pay reached at 1630 feet and deepening started after flow fell to a few barrels daily.

A large crowd at the Pecos rodeo grounds witnessed strong showings from West Texas and New Mexico competitors. Curtis Mc Elroy of Pecos defeated Charlie Norton of Sierra Blanca in the featured match. Walton Poage of Ozona won first in jackpots with 13.4, Mc Elroy took second with 14.4, and Buddy Neill placed third.

Monahans Officer Dies After Gun Wound
Monahans Night Police Chief Earl Burkett died in a Monahans hospital from a gunshot wound suffered earlier that morning. C. W. Ely, 18, of Jal New Mexico, admitted the shooting to District Attorney William L. Kerr and is held on a murder charge. Ely’s statement supports that Burkett shot him during a visit to the city jail with two companions. Burkett is survived by a widow, two children, and his parents in Sweetwater.

Jones Sentenced In Interstate Car Theft Case
Robert Irwin Jones of Carlsbad was sentenced to three years in federal court for transporting a stolen car in interstate commerce. Judge Charles A. Boynton and court members anticipate adjourning this weekend. District Attorney William L. Kerr of Pecos defended the Griffith Amusement Company in a $40,000 fire damage suit by S. Replin of Kermit. Six civil suits were settled across the week.
