The IRS moved to keep alive liens totaling about 21.1 million dollars against Billie Sol Estes for taxes due on 1961–1962 earnings from alleged non existent fertilizer tank mortgages. Liens list Estes at an Abilene address with Patsy Estes and others tied to trusts. additional liens name trustees for his children.

PHS Auto Mechanics Reach State Meet After VICA Wins
Pecos High School auto mechanics students competed at the District VICA contest in Big Spring. First place winners were Steve Sandefur William Brown Kerry Gerken Kent Lauderdale Jim Criswell and George Jimenez with others placing in student selected jobs. Isaac Ramirez won the notebook division ahead of Robert Jimenez. State meet in Dallas is April 21-22.

Easter egg hunt set on April 1 in Pecos park
Pecos Optimist Club plans its second annual Easter egg hunt at municipal park starting about 9 a.m. on April 1. Up to 10 000 eggs will be hidden with separate pre school and age six to ten contests. Prizes include Dairy Queen meals and cash prizes. Proceeds partly fund tree sales. An invitation was extended to West Texas Children's Home in Pyote. Parents are asked to arrive after 8 30 a.m. to allow egg hiding.

Four Die in Midtown YMCA Fire
Searing flames swept a hallway of a large midtown YMCA killing four persons and injuring 29 others. Emergency crews treated 29 victims at three hospitals and three were admitted. Hundreds fled to the street in panic as the blaze raged Wednesday night.

Car Truck Collision Injures El Paso Man on S Maple Street
Hal Thomas Jones 67 of El Paso sustained a head cut in a Wednesday morning crash on S Maple Street when his one ton truck collided with a car driven by Thomas Blakey 25 of 116 N Alamos. Jones was treated at Memorial Hospital and released. no charges were filed.
