Twenty five hundred Americans joined St Patrick’s Day festivities in Dublin more than doubling last year’s turnout. The Irish Tourist Board hosted a week of celebration to bolster the faltering tourist trade and expected spending of 360000 dollars.
In a Spartan room at Fort Benning six Army officers served as Calley murder trial jurors. Judge Reid Kennedy warned them to weigh the events of March 15 and 16, 1968 and to determine Lt. William L. Calley Jr.’s guilt or innocence with independent responsibility.
President Nixon pays tribute to civil rights leader Whitney M Young Jr at graveside rites in Greenwood Cemetery Lexington. Young's body travels 75 miles from Louisville as thousands lined the route and viewed his casket Tuesday night in a predominantly black neighborhood.
Secretary of State William P. Rogers said the Nixon administration trusts Congress to back U S troop participation in a United Nations police force to help secure a peace settlement between Egypt and Israel. He added that if an agreement acceptable to both sides is crafted, he believes the Senate and House would support it.
Space planners in Phoenix report that the United States could gain a one billion dollar boost for its post Apollo space program if it agrees to supply rockets to launch European communications satellites. Sixteen European nations pledge funds contingent on solving satellite launch arrangements.
Washington AP reports planting estimates for major 1971 crops align with Nixon administration expectations. Clarence Palmby, assistant agriculture secretary, told reporters that Tuesday's planting intentions report shows no big surprises and no need for major shifts in farm programs.
A bipartisan bill to establish an independent nonprofit program for the poor would create the National Corporation for Legal Services. The private government financed agency would take over the program now run by the Office of Economic Opportunity.

Pecos native Tommy Frank Joplin a Baylor University senior math major and cadet captain in the Air Force ROTC is enrolled for the spring semester. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Frank Joplin of 1102 S Cherry and a Pecos High School graduate preparing for possible Air Force service after graduation.
A Senate subcommittee heard that a forced unitization law would favor big oil at the expense of independents. Fort Worth Driller Arent Rowan warned the measure could overshadow smaller producers, while supporters argued it would aid secondary recovery and raise oil tax revenue.

Most come from the first priority group, with some extended-priority-ineligible March inductees included. The pre-induction call totals 4,601, and a separate doctors and dentists call is processed separately.

Two young men robbed the Prosper National Bank in Prosper Texas before 10 am fleeing in a white car toward U S 289. Bank President Ralph Bower said about 20 dollars were taken. The get away car was abandoned. Four employees and four customers were inside.
Former President Lyndon Johnson failed to keep a routine physical in San Antonio. Initial reports said he spent 30 minutes at Brooke Army General Hospital then left, then officials said he had not arrived and a helicopter with Secret Service had landed. Spokesmen later said he did not arrive and canceled the visit. He had been hospitalized there briefly in January for mild viral pneumonia.
An urgent meeting of the Little League Association is scheduled for next Monday night March 22 at 7:30 in the Coffee Room of Security State Bank. No money is needed. volunteers are sought to coach the Cardinals and Indians. At the last meeting Jack Duke was elected president Red McLain vice-president Ray Golden secretary treasurer and David Alan Smith player agent.
Windy conditions remain mainly east portion with a partly cloudy sky. Tonight and Thursday will be windy with a cooler Thursday, low 35 and high 84 degrees, as reports show.
Services for Mrs. Annie Farr Cowan age 82 are set for tomorrow at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Leslie Smith officiating. Interment follows at Evergreen Cemetery under Pecos Funeral Home direction. She died Monday night in Memorial Hospital after a period of illness.
Van Horn Texas hosts the second annual Open Hangar at Culberson County Airport sponsored by the Guadalupe Aviation Association. The day includes a Fly-In Breakfast, spot landing contest, static aircraft displays, a group flyover, air aerobatics, a film by Southwest Air Rangers, and airplane rides with proceeds funding airport improvements. A rain date is set for April 18.
