The Pecos Barstow School Board approved a paving contract of 20 442 75 to E L Hooper of Andrews for Iowa Street and Elizabeth Street near Pecos High School. Twenty five Monahans ladies from the Tau Lambda Club will tour the West of the Pecos Museum in Pecos on Wednesday March 17. Harold Meyer of the Pecos Chamber of Commerce arranged the visit. Mrs. Robert Orr, a Monahans civic leader, helped secure the contact. The group will arrive about 12 30 p.m. and have lunch before the museum tour.
In Pecos yesterday United States District Court issued guilty pleas and sentences. Otto Herman Renz received a five year suspended sentence and five years probation for a Dyer Act violation. Donald Mack Flippin drew two years in a federal penitentary for false information to an Odessa firearms dealer. Lucia Mamie Jaramillo Ramon Gonzales Jr and Jose M Torres pleaded guilty to narcotics charges and faced sentencing after a probation report. Grand Jury returned indictments charging transport of aliens marijuana and firearms offenses across several defendants.
J B Kirklin of Pecos Texas chairman of the National Cotton Farmers Information Committee testifies before a Senate Agriculture subcommittee warning that participation in the 1971 cotton program could cause a 250 million income reduction. He cites cuts of 137 million in federal loan payments and 116 million in market value, criticizing the shift to net weight trading and urging reversal of loan rate rules. Other speakers echo concerns over loan rates and packaging costs for cotton farmers.
Ector ''B'' team defeated the Pecos Rowdies 9 to 7 at Jaycee Park after extra innings. Chavez earned the win with seven strikeouts, Fuentes took the loss with three. Mrs. Annie Earl Cowan 82 died last night at Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services are pending at Pecos Funeral Home as sister Mrs. Luella Hubbs and husband Barney travel from Europe. Born September 3, 1888 in Tohay, she lived in Pecos area all her life with husband the late Will Cowan, active in founding the First Baptist Church building. Survivors include two daughters Mrs. C.T. Mount and Myrtle Cowan, two sons W.E. Cowan and C.T. Cowan, three brothers, one sister, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
