President Nixon declines to intervene in the Senate filibuster rule fight as a third bid to end the 23 day debate and force a rule change appears doomed to fail. Sponsors expect about six votes short of the two thirds needed to limit debate.
California prosecutors say overwhelming evidence shows Angela Davis plotted a failed courthouse escape in which four men died. They argue that letting her choose her own defense attorney would guarantee a disorderly trial.
The Nixon administration pledges environmental questions will be answered before commercial SST production proceeds. EPA head William Ruckelshaus told a House Appropriations subcommittee that technological projects can be halted if found environmentally unsound.

The Rowdies defeated the Monahans Lobo B team 7 to 6 as Johnny Fuentes and Rudy Mendoza led scoring with two runs each. Mendoza relieved in the second inning and held the Loboes, who added two runs in the seventh. Rowdies host Carlsbad Mid Hi Friday at 4 30 in Jaycee Park.

Friday night features the Eagle Queens vs Andrews, baseball at Carlsbad New Mexico, plus the Eagle B team vs Carlsbad MidHi. The Queen play in Kermit tonight, Varsity vs Monahans Loboes Saturday at 1 p.m., Eagle freshman in Kermit volleyball, and Eagles in Seminole track meet.
Airman First Class William F. Cook, son of Mr and Mrs George F Cook, has returned home on leave from San Francisco. He served in Okinawa for over a year as a jet engine mechanic and will be sent back to Okinawa after a short duty in San Francisco.
In Khe Sanh Vietnam North Vietnamese shelling halted a scheduled landing of U S Sen Lloyd Bentsen by small plane. He reached the combat base by helicopter about ninety minutes after the attack with no casualties or damage reported.
Pecos High School senior class will stage The Diary of Anne Frank on March 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. in the PHS auditorium. Directed by Jonny Williams with sponsorship by Irene Turk Sandra Bailey and Gerald Grove, the production honors Otto Frank's permission to dramatize his daughter's diary. Cast includes Marsha Miller as Anne and Kathy Beauchamp as student director. Tickets are $1 for adults and 75 cents for students.
The Pecos Golf Association will meet Friday March 5 at 7 30 p m at Pecos Valley Country Club for plans for the 1971 season. A chili supper will be served and all are invited. J D Gillespie is association president.
