Storm wreaks damage as Pecos floods and planes crash
A heavy thunderstorm drenched Pecos with 1.81 inches of rain causing flooding and roof collapse at Hobby Craft & Art Center. A lightning fire damaged an attic, a pilot was injured in a small plane crash near Municipal Airport, and power outages hit Hill's Thriftway area. Civil Air Patrol aided stranded motorists while trees fell and a grass fire sparked by lightning was extinguished. The storm also grounded Turner, a California pilot, after his Piper Cub overturned and he sustained a head cut.

125 Horsemen Return From West Texas Trail Ride
One hundred twenty five West Texas Trail Riders arrive in Pecos after a 120 mile ride that began in Marfa Tuesday. They will attend a Mexican supper at Santa Rosa Hall and participate in the rodeo parade Saturday. Three wagons traveled with the group including one from Odessa. The association wagon features a two way radio linking to the Reeves County Sheriff's Office and Texas Highway Patrol.

Annual West of the Pecos Rodeo Comes to Pecos
The Pecos rodeo festival opens this weekend with entries signed at the Ramada Inn by 1 30, inviting crowds to enjoy events and western dress rules. Honorary judges District Judge J H Staveley County Judge Darrell Glover and Justice of the Peace Bill Pigman will lead a lighthearted dressing and fines promo in a stock trailer. The Optimist Club hosts a West of the Pecos split day Saturday and the Western Trail Riders Association wraps up their Marfa ride with a post event dance and supper for Mexican members.

Pecos Rodeo Weekenders Invite Public to Street Dances
The Pecos Enterprise lists events for the Pecos Rodeo and Heritage edition. Street dances on Oak Street by the old railroad depot start at 8 p.m. with music by Easy Adams and his Texas Tophands. The Reeves County Sheriff's Posse hosts dances at the posse barn at 8 p.m. with admission 2 dollars, plus parade prep and rodeo activities through Saturday and Tuesday nights. The parade, Saturday at 10:30 a.m., features 15 floats and the Pecos High School Band, with prizes for winners and a reception at the West of the Pecos Museum prior to the parade. Box seats for the 43rd annual rodeo remain on sale at city hall and through the Pecos Chamber of Commerce.
