He is a 1965 Balmorhea High School graduate with a 1969 UT Austin English degree and a Delta Tau Delta member. His wife Shannon is from San Antonio.

Final rites are pending at Pecos Funeral Home for Oscar Tarango Nieto, 26, who died yesterday morning at his home. An ambulance was summoned at 3:30 as he struggled to breathe. he had been under a doctor's care for a lung ailment and was pronounced dead of natural causes by Justice of Peace Cliff Preslar.
An eight year old, Jesus Raul Garcia, drowned yesterday afternoon while swimming with his brother and a friend near the Highway 80 bridge on the Pecos River. Rescue crews from the Pecos Volunteer Fire Dept and city police recovered the body as authorities investigated the incident.
Miss Tennie Davis and Mrs. Floyd Hummel remain in Memorial Hospital with head contusions and chest sprains after an 8 am two vehicle collision north of Barstow. Davis allegedly failed to yield to Hummel’s 1965 Chevrolet pickup. police citation issued for Davis. Separate report notes a drowning death of a boy born in Alpine in August 1963, with services pending at Santa Rosa Catholic Church and survivors listed.
